CUSTOM APPAREL CATALOG FOR JL RACING
October 05, 2021
Being prepared for cold and potentially wet practices is crucial for fall and winter training. Staying comfortable will let you train and perform your best!
The key to dressing warm is layers. It's better to shed layers than to not have enough, right? On top, a baselayer will help wick the sweat you produce while working out, keeping you dry. Next is an insulating layer to keep you warm. If it is very cold, then you may want an additional warm layer, and if it is rainy, then you will want a waterproof layer to protect you from the elements. Of course, don't forget the bottoms and accessories, as well!
Today, we want to share some of our favorite JL apparel for those cold or wet practices, so you can stay warm and continue to perform. We also ask our Team JL Ambassadors what their go-to outfits are for colder days.
1. Drywick Tights Navy
Made out of Drywick, a mid-weight strong yet supple fabric, these tights are constructed of the highest quality Microfiber and boast famous durability. They are unisex and are designed for the rowing motion, with a high back and stretch down the length of the leg.
2. Wild Oar Men's Pro Panel Quarter Zip Navy
Our men's pro panel performance quarter-zip has extended sleeves and added thumbholes. Pullover has neck protection to prevent friction and a relaxed fit for multiple activities. Great for layering for additional warmth.

4. USRowing Women's Full Length Legging Light Camo
These official USRowing, all-season leggings, are perfect for any activity. The four-way stretch, high moisture-wicking material makes this pant a go-to for morning practice or for sporting around town.
5. Men's Sequel Turtleshell Hi-Viz

9. Men's Thermo Tech Shirt Orange
Our thermo long-sleeve tech shirt is a great baselayer for staying warm. Stand out in the orange, or try the purple, black, high-viz, and red. Also available in Women's!
10. Women's Scallop Jacket Hi-Viz
Stay safe on the water in our Hi-Viz Scallop Jacket! This jacket has thumb holes so it is the perfect zip-up for layering on the water and around the boathouse. Not to mention the high visibility color and performance knit fabric gives added protection.
11. Three Piece Pogie Set Black
Rowers don't let rowers wear gloves. Pogies allow a bare-hand grip for maximum oar control while giving you the ultimate thermal protection in frigid conditions. The three piece set is ideal for sculling and sweeping on either side.
12. Script Logo Beanie Navy/Gold
Keep your melon warm and rep JL in this beanie with an athletic gold embroidered JL logo.
"Cold weather rowing for me is all about layers. This time of year, it can be cold when I get to the boathouse but the temperature can shoot up 15-20 degrees while I’m on the water so I need to be able to peel down as it warms up. The Sequel is great over a short sleeve tech shirt and with trou for early Autumn so I can keep my core warm and dry. In early Spring or end of season in October, when it can still snow, I will swap the trou for my JL tights and occasionally a splash jacket for that extra layer of warmth."

"The regular splash jacket is my go-to for cool weather rowing when it’s too cold for a vest and not cold enough for the cox jacket. I wear the hi-vis and other jackets with hi-vis on them to increase my visibility as I row alone. The Row for the Cure one is bright pink so I wear it a lot too.
For fall and spring, and even early summer mornings in the pacific northwest, the vest is a must. The vest and splash jackets have a zippered pocket on the lower back where my keys sit safely in a ziplock baggie, and a napoleon pocket on the front to hold my sunglasses till after the sun rises.
My favorite really cold weather gear is the coxswain splash jacket. It’s lined with fleece and has kangaroo pockets also lined with fleece. I row with this in the winter with a tech shirt and a thin wool shirt under it. When rowing sweep (especially in bow pair in an eight) in the winter, it is wonderful, as you can warm up your hands in the kangaroo pockets while sitting out during drills.
For the bottom, I wear trou under all capris or tights. The capris I wear at home because I beach launch and wear knee high neoprene booties over thin wool socks. Tights would get too wet when beach launching.
I wear the quarter zip heavier shirts - the USRowing hi-vis is standard all winter. I will also wear the other heavier long sleeve tech shirts if I am wearing a wool shirt under it that has a quarter zip. I need to keep my neck warm and the quarter zips are a must when it is cold out. I have a couple of the tech shirts with the hoods and wear them a lot - though the light hood tends to flop around, I like how it keeps my neck warm."
