Happy Earth Day! Each year, April 22 commemorates the 1970 environmental movement and the first ever Earth Day. Earth Day was established to awaken public awareness of human impact on our natural environment. This year marks the 51st anniversary of the holiday. JL Racing’s belief in sustainable practices has led us to make conscious decisions in our company operations.

JL Racing recognizes the need for sustainable business practices, which is why we use sublimation instead of traditional dyeing techniques. The Natural Resources Defense Council, Inc. (NRDC) estimates that textile companies are responsible for one-fifth of total water pollution. The textile industry deposits millions of gallons of polluted water into natural waterways each year and the average dyed shirt wastes 2,700 liters of waterSublimation, or the process of using heat and pressure to transfer an image into fabric, results in zero water waste. Sublimation also uses ten times less energy than regular dyed fabric, enabling us to reduce our overall energy consumption.

Additionally, our precise laser cutter results in very little fabric waste during manufacturing. We believe in renewable, sustainable solutions, so our manufacturing facility is almost entirely solar powered. Lastly, our JL plastic garment bags are recycled, recyclable, and biodegradable, which helps protect animals and ecosystems from deadly plastic waste. Reducing plastic waste is crucial in preserving our beautiful rivers and oceans. Without them, our robust rowing community would not exist.

Join JL Racing and US Rowing this year in celebrating Earth Day today and choose to protect our natural environment from harmful impact and waste. You can rest assured JL Racing manufactures your JL and US Rowing apparel with responsibility to the planet in mindHappy Earth Day, and remember to recycle those plastic garment bags!
